[AVENUE] Magazine December 2011

One of my favorite things in SL has been my work with AVENUE Magazine. As Fashion Editor, I've been able to interview the most talent people and share my own views on fashion and style. I've been writing my column, "Fun With Fashion", for three years. It seems like only yesterday and I have to say that I've grown ALOT. I'll save a flashback post for later. IF people ask :P

This month I'm sure you attended the most fabulous Vintage Fair brought to you by Keira Seerose and her team at Chic Management. It was a resounding success and I found inspiration from the theme and also the War Horse editorial in November Vogue.

I hope you enjoy it as much as Mattie and I had fun creating!

[AVENUE] Magazine December 2011

As Fashion Editor of AVENUE Magazine, I'm always thrilled to showcase up-and-coming designers. This month was especially fun as I was explore Faster Pussycat, I kept seeing this editorial of a side-show circus. Styling the looks was inspiring and Brie Wonder was a whiz creating the set. She really is a wonder! Big thanks to Honey Bender of Faster Pussycat for her gracious help and to Paola Tauber, Creative Director of AVENUE Magazine for the amazing layout!

Nardya Rousselot has been working her little prim fingers to the pixel with the her latest endeavor... Nardcotix MANA! It's an entire shoe line that will blow your mind. Nards is such a truly wonderful person, and I'm so thankful to be her friend (and Chubba's). She so kindly named these shoes after me, and I couldn't be more honored. THANK YOU NARDS!! The woman is a gem and has named several more pairs after her friends (*HINT HINT*) - The full names of each MANA shoe inspired by Nardya's friends - Anessa Stine, Breezie Noel, Vixie Rayna, and Dezi Jarvinen.

The stone embellishment yet casual style make these a must have for summer, and you really can wear these with anything because the stones are color change too! *Dies* Don't ask me how long I've played with these shoes... as soon as I was allowed to wear them in public I haven't taken them off. You'll have to pry them from my cold dead pixels!

For the Love of McQueen

AVENUE Models proudly presents "For the Love of McQueen", a tribute to the late Alexander McQueen, where 38 fashion designers have come together to lend their support in each creating a design that is inspired by McQueen's work and spirit.

These original designs created within a week, will be showcased in a fashion show on 28th February 2010 at 12 pm SLT on GOLden shopping sim after which the designs will be available for sale at the designers' stores for the month of March. 100% of the sales proceeds will be donated to the charity, Keep A Child Alive, since Alexander McQueen was a known supporter of similar AIDS / HIV charities.

The project initiated and produced by Rusch Raymaker, CEO of AVENUE Inc, shares her inspiration for organising this project:

"Alexander McQueen represents an immortal legacy of the spirit of innovation that continually pushed the envelope in fashion. Always one to shape and reshape fashion by deconstruction and reconstruction, McQueen was indeed a 21st century designer that constantly dared to refrain from conformity. He gave the world a new vision and perspective about fashion and his knack for story-telling to relay these messages was second to none, richly realized in his designs and fashion show productions. His mind, his spirit and his visions were larger than life.

For all these things and the sense of loss and grief I feel for losing such a great inspiration in my life, I dedicate this tribute, For The Love of McQueen, a collaboration of Second Life's fashion designers, stylists, artists, members of the press and the team from AVENUE Models and AVENUE Magazine, to express our gratitude for the impression Alexander McQueen made on all our lives, real and virtual."

The fashion show will be hosted by Angie Mornington of Fabulous Fashion and staged on a build realized by Babyhoney Bailey based on Rusch Raymaker's inspiration for the show. Machinimaist TommyLee Nightfire will be creating a film documenting the creations and show.

Fun with Fashion - January

Thought you might like a little taste of some wonderful fashion finds that are perfect for the budget conscious fashionista! Here's a little excerpt from my Fun with Fashion column in this month's edition of Avenue Magazine (check it out ONLINE).

"My good friend Chalice Carling, inspired me to see just how cheap I could be with this month’s column. Styling on a budget takes a bit more research than usual. Two websites provided tons of inspiration. First, I hit up the ever so helpful Fashion Planet feed. My Second Life on the D-List by Ding Fotherington is a wonderful treasure trove of freestyle and tips on the best hunts.

Inspiration can be very expensive. Setting a budget was also important. What kind of budget you ask? Let’s think of something fair. How much on average per month do you spend on your avatar? $500L, $1,000L, $10,000L, or a staggering $100,000L! Be honest, I won’t tell anyone. It will be our little secret. Vixie is here to help!

Let’s break down the cost of monthly avatar maintenance. If you buy one skin, two hairs, and two outfits (clothes, shoes, and accessories) per month, you probably average around $5,000L. What would you say if I told you I could save you about $4,815L on the two looks I’m about to share?

We will start with Cheap n’ Chic. The base is an adorable free dress from 24 SHOO named Fur Line that I saw on Ding’s blog. The golden scalloped bodice is paired with a red skirt with animal print sash. It’s about as chic as you can get and for $0L you better hurry your tushies over and pick one up."
